CROSSINGS  VI

Today, I lie on my back in the sand and stare at the depth of blue sky that swears it goes on forever, and I cannot stop the longing inspired by such a promise.  When I close my eyes I can feel the heat of the sun and imagine your breath traveling lightly up my arm, your face stopping at the curve of my throat.  If I opened my eyes, I would see that puzzled look you get when your body begins to take you where your mind will never go.  I keep my eyes closed and smell the salt air, imagine it is your sweat.  I lift my own hand to my mouth and I lick the inside of my palm pretending it is you licking me and it is me kissing you and for a brief moment I am no longer alone on this vast stretch of ocean where I could be lost and no one would ever hear me cry.
